Even though I only had four days to explore the entire island in Santorini, I didn’t miss the most exciting Santorini sightseeing tours. When I reached the hotel where I was staying, I took some rest and immediately went out to explore the island. I had less time and there were so many things to do in this Greek island.
According to my experience, here are the best places in Santorini that I will never forget. Sone of these places took me to the historic era while some gave me an insight into the vibrant culture of Santorini.
Lighthouse exploration in Akrotiti
The first place which I visited was the Lighthouse in Akrotiti. It usually remains open from 8 AM to 12 AM as so I had to start my journey early in the morning. After I reached the top of the lighthouse which was covered with a green dome-shaped ceiling, I could see the vast Aegean Sea and the surrounding volcanic cliffs with ease. In fact, I could also see the Oia Castle which was built centuries ago.
Exploring the Kamari Beach
I love beaches and Santorini has several such places which one can explore. However, the beach which I visited was the Kamari Beach. The shoreline was covered with small pebbles while the beach had black sand instead of the usual white or golden sand. There were several coves in the area some of which I explored. The best part was snorkelling in the ocean water and exploring the marine life.
Going on a boat trip around Santorini
The next thing I did was to go on one of the famous Santorini sightseeing tours via boats. The boatman took me around the volcanic mountains surrounding the island. Those were dormant volcanoes and yet the terrain was so beautiful to watch. I also visited the hot spring area and took a dip in the healing waters. It was quite refreshing and by far my best experience in Santorini.
Visiting the ancient site of Thera
Thera is believed to be the ancient town of the Aegean Civilization and that’s what attracted me in the first place. Even though the entire city was in ruins, it’s beauty was unparalleled. There was a special area named as the Roman Bath where people used to take bathes in the ancient time. The main attraction of Thera was the long Byzantine walls which are intact till date.
Conclusion
Santorini might be a small island as compared to the others surrounding the main land of Greece, there are a lot of hidden treasures to be explored. Even though I went to several other places, these above four have been my best experience during my vacation.
