Pyrgos

The Santorini southern side is home to some charming villages that stop on your half-day tour. The village of Pyrgos is home to the ruins of an old Venetian castle. You can walk around the paths on a guided tour and see the remnants of the village that was once the island’s capital.

Megalochori

Tour the village of Megalochori to experience the traditional culture of Santorini. The town still has many buildings built in the traditional architecture that you will see as you walk around the streets.

Emporio

Visit the village that will be part of your south tour in Santorini is Emporio, which is also the largest village. Black and Red Beaches

No trip to Santorini is complete without visiting the beaches. On the south side, there is the Black Beach and the Red Beach. The Red Beach offers unique views, named due to the color of the sand. The cliffs behind the beach feature soaring red lava that goes right into the shore and majestic blue sea for a truly stunning view.

Akrotiri

The Red Beach is close to Akrotiri, which you might know as the Minoan Pompeii. Some say that Plato’s story of Atlantis, connected to the stories of the ancient town of Akrotiri. Similar to Pompeii, a volcanic eruption destroyed the city in 1450. The volcanic ash kept the Minoan city well-preserved. Archeologists discovered three-story buildings, furniture, pottery, and even an advanced drainage system.

Prophet Ilias

As you embark on your 5-hour Santorini half-day tour around the southern side of the aisle, you will experience so much of what the island has to offer. You also have the chance to hike up the famous peak of Prophet Ilias, which is the highest mountain on the island at 2,000 feet above sea level.
